The past 2 weeks were hectic with finding a new apartment (fast) and move in by February. We were lucky and found a place we liked within four apartments complexes we looked at. The first one we liked but no availability. The second one was the one we chose which we had a tough choice between $80 in rent but of course we chose the cheaper one. Expensive one was nicer! Anyways, the third one was okay but for the price it was expensive. The fourth was actually considered but that weird size for a living room wasn't my favorite (it was small).
We were lucky to say we wanted to take the apartment when we did because the person waiting for us to finish up wanted to take the apartment we just took. I never thought I would end up being one of those people (Sorry!). I guess it does happen. Also when we came in about an hour and a half after taking a lunch break, the other apartment that was more expensive was also taken. Seems like apartments go faster than I would have expected or at least in this area.
After apartment hunting, we had to travel back 7.5 hours in order to pack the trailer. We moved from being on the third floor to the first floor so it was easier to move in than out. If I learned anything about moving it's that I really need to exercise/work out more. Maybe hire some movers next time but of course that cost (more) money. The only thing that was difficult to move was the bed mattress.
Due to the long travel, and both of us driving two different cars, we decided to stopped by a friend's place who generously allowed us to sleep for the night. It was fun connecting with friends I haven't seen in 2 years.
Before moving in, it is best to check the apartment and take pictures to make sure it is good. It was all good until I stepped into the bathroom. There was water all over the floor! This is when we think to ourselves, did we pick the wrong one? After getting weekend maintenance over and figuring out the problem, it has been slowly being fixed. We found out that a valve for the washer in the unit above us broke. So, that was fixed once they ordered in a part. Of course the damage was not just in our bathroom, it was also in the bedroom closet. As of now, maintenance has dried and fixed the carpet, and sprayed it down with some mold prevention stuff. I believe today, if possible, maintenance will come to fix the damage to the sink cabinet and something with the closet (I forgot). It has been snowy here (a lot), so I'm grateful for maintenance for being able to help with the problem.
Other than that incident, we seemed to have adjusted living here quite quickly. We just need more furniture and stuff which probably might not happen till summer. Here's to hoping we chose the right place after all!
