[Hiking] Indian Kill Nature Preserve

Indian Kill Nature Preserve has a few trails which are short and fun to hike. The trails all connect again at some point to continue to the falls. The trail continues across the water after the first falls but only if it can be crossed.

The Hike

From the parking lot, the path leads to a dam with a bridge to cross over to the other side. The path splits to yellow and red not far from the dam. Continuing on yellow will lead toward the sound of the cars on the road (we did not fully follow the path but as far as we were willing to go). On red, it will go up a hill with some steps. After continuing the path will split from yellow to red again.  There is also a point where the path will split to blue (around a tree with etchings). All these paths could lead to the waterfall area. The yellow path is more of a high ground path, the red is more flat until the hill that will lead to the stream, and blue is along the stream.

We went on this hike three times before we made it to the falls. The first time, we went on blue trail and that trail was harder to hike (shoes kept slipping). Second time, we went to explore the first yellow and red split before going to the second split. When we went on the second split, we smelled a strong scent of skunk and we did not want to risk running into one during daylight hours. The third time, there were fallen trees blocking the path but we were able to make it through. We finally reached the falls and we could not continue across the water to the rest of the hike. We will go back to see if we can cross the water when it does not rain so often.
