Project Diva f 2nd Overview

Japanese version on left, English version on right. AR card came with Japanese version.
Another Project Diva game has been localized and I ended up with both English and Japanese versions. At first I had the English version but my save data from f would not transfer over so I had to get the Japanese version. The English version does allow importing the Japanese data from f 2nd over. So, I waited until I finished the Japanese version before importing it to the English version.

The menu: rhythm game, diva room, shop, edit, network, options, record, AR (going right)
Rhythm Game
There are three game options: tutorial, free play and edit play. The tutorial is simple, would only play it once for the trophy and that's about it. Free play is where most of the rhythm game would be spent. In free play, a few songs are already unlocked. To unlock more songs, the songs have to be played on normal mode and have a standard or higher score.

Ribbon = double Diva points. Lock at upper right hand corner.
In this version, there is a lock above the picture of the song with a number. This shows how many more items that are can still be unlocked by playing this song. The requirements to unlock items differs depending on the song. Edit play are songs that are edited or downloaded from the network.

Diva Room

The English menu.
There are a lot of things to do in the Diva room. The character's rooms can be changed, items can be placed on the floor, shelf or wall. Modules (outfits) of the characters can be changed too. Certain items can trigger events. Characters may have requests after rubbing their heads or giving a gift. There are five levels to a character's likeness to the player. Increase in levels will unlock specific items. Event list and gallery can be viewed in the Diva room.

Events
Interacting with fish event.
Similar to the first game, some of the events are identical. Most events can be unlocked by giving food/item gifts or items that can interacted with on the floor/shelf. Some item gifts have multiple events which means the gift needs to be give several times before all events for the item is unlocked.

In this version, gifts can be given once before the pink present box turns grey and slashed out. It takes about 10 minutes (in game time) before another gift can be given. In addition, the same gift can only be given a certain amount of times in a row before the character won't like it and the event will not trigger. If the character loves the gift (2 pink hearts), 3 gifts of the same can be given in a row. If the character is okay with the gift (nods head), 2 gifts of the same can be given in a row. If the character dislikes the gift (sweat drops), it can be given once and only trigger the event once. The event will never trigger again after. The last three gifts can be seen above the bed. I found that the present I give doesn't necessary replace one of the last three gifts.

Floor and shelf item events are easy to unlock. As long as the item is brought from the shop and placed in any of the character rooms (except character specific ones), interacting with it will trigger the event. Sometimes, the character will trigger the event themselves.

The most painful part of the events was unlocking all the sketchbook events. I must have given over 100 sketchbooks before I finally got the one I needed. At this point, everything was already completed (even requests).

Requests
Screen turns to a warm soft yellow color when a character has a request.
Doing requests is a long process. Requests are needed to unlock some items. Requests include playing games, changing their room, changing clothes, changing poster and changing music. I did this while unlocking events with presents (sketchbook/calligraphy paper). I got tired of constantly playing a few songs and then switch to diva rooms and back to songs. Instead, I would sit in event collection or present -> shop for about 5-10 minutes while backing out to see if I can give the divas another present and rub their heads.
Mini games count as requests.
I had one instance of my vita freezing during a loading screen to a game request. Luckily when I reloaded the game, it never saved the request. I gave the same present and had a different request instead.

Other Menus
Shop: There are tons of things to buy in the shop. The sections are modules/customize item, skins and room items. Many of the trophies require either all things or most things brought.

Edit: Can edit songs.

Network: Connect to network to upload/download edit songs.

Options: Couple of possible changes. Best one is changing the star notes from touch screen to analog.

Record: Can see record card and titles gained.

AR: Can use AR Project diva f 2nd cards to see the characters sing and dance in augmented reality.

Import Japanese Data to English Game (For PS Vita)
It took me a while to figure out how to import my Japanese data into the English one but I was successful.

On English version: Start game, go to import.
  • If there is an error message connecting to PSN -> Delete the game and install it again.
  • If it loads to PSN and there is no data even though you have data -> Start Japanese version, go to options -> Game Options -> Cross save and make sure it is on manual or automatic.
Finally got all the PSN trophies at this point. Almost 69 hours of game play.
Final Thoughts
Project Diva f 2nd is a great addition to the series. I spent more time on this one than the first one. I like both games since each game has something slightly different about it other than the song selection. I recommend it for those who like rhythm games and are willing to spend a lot of time/patience playing.

Things to remember:
  • Make sure to change star notes from touch screen to analog
  • Start giving gifts early to trigger certain events (especially sketchbook)
  • Alternate more often from rhythm game to diva room
  • Make sure to do AR to unlock the last gallery picture
  • After unlocking Miku skin, it would be a good idea to set a different character to unlock their skins earlier
I can't wait to play the 3DS version. Sadly, it's been delayed and here I was trying to finish this one. At least now all I have to do is wait for it to be released.
