[Hiking] Plotter Kill Preserve - Try 1

Looks like a super hot day.

There are two entrances to Plotter Kill Preserve. The entrance from NY 159 is closer to the waterfalls while the entrance on Coplon Rd is further. We went to the Coplon Rd entrance and did not realize the map we had did not match with this entrance. We backtracked often and never found the waterfalls. We do plan to go back soon to find them.

Our Bag

We were very under prepared for this hike. We did not realize how hot it was going to be and ran out of water sooner than expected. We plan to pack much more water for the next time.

The Hike

It was a hot day for hiking and after about 10 minutes in, I regret not bringing more water. The Coplon entrance goes down quite a bit before hitting a area with a lot of rocks/stones. There is a sign here that says to Coplon entrance or NY 159 entrance. From here, there were multiple paths and we went back and forth on each one. None of it matched the map from the book we had and we realized it was useless to rely on it.

We were able to see some nice sites even though we had no idea which way to go. We decided to head back early and do a bit more research before trying to tackle this again. Hopefully, we can see the waterfalls next time as well as learn the trails better.

Time Spent: ~2 hours

Below are some pictures of our venture. (Click to enlarge)

The water is so clear!

A small fish.

I think it was this bird that made weird noises.

Chipmunk peeking out.
