IA/VT Colorful Overview

IA is a Vocaloid with her own rhythm game. Similar to the Project Diva series, it has a variety of songs and costumes to unlock.

Gameplay

In IA/VT Colorful, the notes travel along a line. There are colorful notes which can be pressed with any of the 8 buttons (circle, cross, square, triangle, right, down, left, and up). Colorful time will activate after a specific amount of time. During this time, the line that the notes travel on cannot be seen and there will be no colorful notes until it ends. Depending on the song, there could be 1 to 3 colorful times. The progress bar (in default skin) will show regular time in black and colorful time in red.

By completing a song, points are given to level up. Leveling up provides access to more songs, PV's, skins and costumes. The rewards stop at level 50 which is fairly easy to achieve from playing casually.

Free Play

A few songs are unlocked when beginning the game. Easy and Normal mode are unlocked automatically as long as the song is unlocked. Hard mode is unlocked by beating the song on Normal. Songs are unlocked by leveling up. There are 60 songs to play from. Songs are easier in the beginning and gets more difficult going towards the right.

Rank of the song will be listed once the song has been played. Ranks range from SSS - E (never got a F so I have no idea if it's possible). If the song is beaten without ever missing a note, a crown will also be listed.

Step Up Play

Many challenges that range from easy to hard. Choose difficulty and complete the current node challenge to unlock the next one.

Daily Play

Once a day, it will give a challenge with a reward of experience points. This song cannot be retried.

My List Play

Can create a list of up to 3 songs to play in a row.

Item

Can get acquired costumes, rhythm skins and UI skins. These are unlocked by reaching a certain level, beating a specific song or beating a specific challenge.

Online

Never used this feature. Not sure how it works.

Data

Staff credits, trophy list, track data (for each song) and my data. Can also manually save here.

Option

Brightness, sound and auto save feature can be changed here. The UI skin and Rhythm skin can also be changed here.

Final Thoughts

IA/VT Colorful is a fun and challenging game. I had to import the game since it was not likely to ever get localized for the west. The menu is in English so knowing Japanese is not a requirement for this game. This game was easy to pick up but hard to master. I was bored playing through easy mode but once I started on hard mode, I enjoyed the challenge (with some frustration).

I am stuck on Step Up Play and trying to unlock the last costume. I will probably put in another 10 hours or more in order to unlock platinum trophy. I currently have 27.5 hours of play time. This game is about a 40 hour game (for me) assuming that I will take a while before getting the last costume, 7 days daily play (I keep skipping a day), play with all costumes, and perfect 100 songs.

Recommended for those who like rhythm games and Vocaloids.
